Among the schools opening their doors on Monday was Boys Preparatory Elementary School in the Soundview section of The Bronx.

The charter school, which shares space with Public School 107, was one of 17 new charter schools that were temporarily blocked from opening earlier this year.

Charter schools are schools operated independently of the local school board.

The debate was fierce as the De Blasio administration ordered a review of co-location decisions previously approved by the Panel for Education Policy.

The State later stepped in and the school got the green light to open in late August.

The all-boys public charter school is the only one of its kind in the Bronx.

Classes begin at P.S. 107 next week.
