The Public Prep Talent Community

We are an intentionally diverse community. We know that we live in a diverse world, our scholars come from a diverse world, and diversity makes our community stronger and our educational experience better. 73.3% of staff identify as BIPOC, 99.4% of scholars identify as BIPOC.

We understand that identity is an important part of who we are - for both adults and students. We create opportunities for staff and scholars to authentically be themselves, collaborate and learn across lines of difference, and celebrate their identities. Check out our commitment to DEI.

We believe education is more than test scores. We prepare our scholars for standardized assessments and beyond. Just as our scholars need to be able to demonstrate mastery on grade level standards, they also need to have opportunities to empower their voices, flex their creativity, and become leaders in their communities. Emphasizing social-emotional learning as critical to supporting the whole child. We guide scholars in realizing their power and promise, through the values of scholarship, excellence, community, and integrity.

OUR COMMITMENT

Focus on Adult Learning

We care deeply about the development of our people. To promote best practices and foster a network-wide growth mindset, school teams work in a highly collaborative environment, with weekly team meetings, facilitated intellectual prep planning, school-based professional development, and network-wide data days to ensure that every professional in our network has the opportunity to continue their professional growth. To achieve high-quality instruction for every scholar in an inclusive learning environment, we also partner with a variety of organizations, including:

In addition to the adult learning opportunities we offer, our organization is committed to internal pipeline building and the development of our teachers and their progression in the career. We offer an internal teacher leadership program that builds the capacity of teachers to be excellent in their classrooms, mentor colleagues, and build their capacity to lead across grade levels and departments.

Comprehensive benefits packagE

Total rewards program

Total Rewards is an initiative that Public Prep created to better understand the total compensation and benefits packages that we are able to provide for our employees. We annually analyze our benefits, professional development and support structures, and staff satisfaction in order to brainstorm incentives based off five key aspects of the workplace:

  1. Time
  2. Staff recognition
  3. Continuous learning opportunities/ professional development
  4. Longitudinal financial incentives
  5. Joy

As we continue to grow, our Total Rewards Program helps us understand the ever changing needs of our staff, network-wide.

STAFF PROFILES

Emilee Christopher
Public Prep Network
Chief Talent Officer

Public Prep is an amazing and dynamic organization to work within and lead. In my decade with the organization, I have been challenged to develop systems, push my thinking, reflect on my biases, and create clear through lines between the work we do across various departments and student achievement. I am proud to work alongside a dedicated team with a focus on attracting, recruiting, developing, and retaining educators with a lens of diversity, equity and inclusion at the forefront of our work.

Jovonnie Garcia
Boys Prep Bronx
Senior Director of Operations

Working at Public Prep (Boys Prep) has provided me with an opportunity to work in my community of the South Bronx. As a staff member, I have been afforded the opportunity to gain new experiences and learning the operations of a private facility. I've had the opportunity to oversee a passionate team of operations staff that have trusted my leadership to help coach and guide their development.

Tashonda Martin
Girls Prep Bronx Elementary
Director of Student & Family Affairs

I enrolled my daughter in Girls Prep Bronx Elementary in 2017 because I was impressed with their innovative approach to single sex education and developing the whole child. My belief in the mission of Public Prep is demonstrated by my initial commitment of enrolling my daughter, becoming an active member of the school community and my current role as Director of Student and Family Affairs. As a leader within the network, I am excited about using my expertise to create a culture where scholars are seen and heard beyond their academic data, utilizing school and community to build and support the whole child, with an exceptional team.

Eileen Egan
Girls Prep Bronx Middle
Academic Director

I started my career at GPBXM as a Founding Special Education History Teacher, in which I was able to solidify a culturally responsive curriculum that is still used across the school today. From there, I transitioned into teaching English where I felt my talents would be able to increase students' results and continue to push the envelope with high level discourse. I became our English department chair and realized the joy that it gives me in supporting my colleagues to grow in their own profession and understand how to unpack data in various ways. In turn, allowing colleagues to step back and reflect on their own instruction. This led me to my current role as Academic Director, in which I am building my capacity to manage teachers and increase their pedagogy, as well as be a thought partner in increasing the entire school's effectiveness with both data as well as high level conversations.
