Girls Prep Scholars Participate In The NYS Summer Honor Choir
Mrs. Bowling with six of the eight GPLES singers: Ayanna, Esther, Destiny, Aneres, Melina, and Trisha
NEW YORK, NY - This summer, 8 scholars from Girls Prep Lower East Side participated in the New York-American Choral Directors Association Summer Elementary Honor Choir. Ayanna Alejandro, Trisha Boakye-Yiadom, Esther Finger, Aneres Martin, Melina Mencia, Destiny O’Neal, Chances Palmer, and Kaylee Ruilova were nominated by Mrs. Bowling for their hard work and exemplary performance in music class. They were accepted into the choir in June and learned their music over the summer.
On August 13th, they traveled to Albany, the capital of New York, to sing with about 100 of the top young singers from all around New York State in grades 4, 5, and 6. The Girls Prep girls were doubly honored to receive this opportunity, because they were the only children representing New York City in the whole group. They worked with a renowned conductor, Ms. Melissa Keylock, who ran rehearsals all afternoon and evening on August 13th, followed by a long morning of rehearsing on Tuesday, August 14th. That afternoon they performed an outstanding concert attended by the state’s music teachers, family, and friends. Congratulations, girls!
