Girls Prep STEM Focus
Girls Prep has distinguished itself in cultivating an early love of math and science among girls, especially with its unique math and science structure in elementary school. Beginning in Kindergarten, Girls Prep scholars attend science class, taught by science-only instructors; and a daily Cognitively Guided Instruction (CGI) class to develop their mathematical thinking. Girls Prep has also departmentalized, with math-only teachers, starting from third grade. In 2016, 99% of Girls Prep Bronx and Girls Prep Lower East Side fourth graders passed the 2016 NY State Science Exam.
Girls Prep also created a landmark, three-year partnership with BioBus. Read about it here.
Founded in 2005, Girls Prep Lower East Side now educates nearly 700 young female scholars in grades K-8 on two campuses on the lower east side of Manhattan. Girls Prep alumnae now attend premier public, private and parochial high schools, including 33 of the top nationally ranked public high schools in NYC (by US News & World Report) and a range of premier high schools, including Bard Early College High School, Beacon, Manhattan/Hunter Science School, Phillips Exeter, and Sacred Heart Academy. Moreover, the first graduating class of Girls Prep alumnae is now entering college in 2017, with this first cohort being accepted into some of the most prestigious colleges and universities, including Yale University, Stephens College, Howard University and St. John’s University.
